Election races heat up way before the official campaign period a few months before election day, nor when certificate of candidacies are filed, which is a few months from now.

The frenzy begins as political camps engage in backroom talks and overt operations, realign with forces they think beneficial to their agenda, all in the hope of solidifying their slate and their chances in the 2022 elections. In many cases, controversies also surface as groups deliberate on prospective standard bearers.

On Thursday, June 24, the Newsbreak team will discuss these factions and realignments, the names now emerging for the country’s top positions, all happening while the poll body faces unprecedented challenges preparing for pandemic-era elections.

The discussion with Rappler managing editor Chay Hofileña, news editor Paterno Esmaquel II, and multimedia reporters Pia Ranada and Camille Elemia will be moderated by investigative editor Miriam Grace A. Go.

Do all roads lead to Davao? Is a single opposition candidate for president possible? Does having its own Davao bloc put the Commission on Elections’ credibility in question?

Join us on Thursday afternoon for the discussion. Let us know in the comments below or tag us on Twitter (@newsbreakph) if you have any questions! – Rappler.com
